Holy fucking shit
So I’ve had thoughts about various aspects of the reaction to the Covid pandemic for a while now. Until today (Tuesday, April 13, 2021) I’ve been mostly just ranting about them in my head, various comments sections, and occasionally on Twitter, though mostly I just retweeted people I thought were smart. But then the CDC went and did this shit. So here we are now. And now the floodgates are open and ya boi Frezon/Jack is off his chain and ready to rant. Hope you’re ready.
Before I get into it all, obligatory disclaimers. I’m not a medical professional, despite current work towards that front I’m not a doctor (and still won’t be a MD), and my knowledge about this stuff mostly comes from reading news and twitter threads. In fairness, I believe my sources are good ones, but no one is perfect and its possible I’m getting shit info. Beyond my advice to fucking GET VACCINATED, nothing I say should be taken as medical advice. Also, this shouldn’t be your source for Covid info. I’d recommend Zvi Mowshowitz’s pretty fantastic blog https://thezvi.wordpress.com/ which does excellent weekly posts about how the pandemic is going. If you read Zvi, you’ll notice I’m using a lot of his info. However, unlike Zvi, who has to maintain some rationality and decorum, I’m just gonna go all out. With that out of the way, let’s get started on the topics of my rant, starting with
THE CDC
An absolute, incomprehensible, revolting, unforgivable, and utterly horrific dereliction of duty and disregard for both human life and basic fucking statistics was done today. Upon seeing 6 women who got the vaccine 1-2 weeks ago developed some blood clots, the CDC decided that they were gonna stop using the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for “a matter of days”. That’s not a typo. There have been 7 million doses of this vaccine given so far. 6 people have gotten these clots, days after receiving the vaccine.
What the fuck.
This hasn’t been the first time the CDC has made fucking shit decisions. It took them forever to acknowledge that yeah, the virus is spread through the air, not surfaces. They told us masks weren’t good or useful. AstraZeneca still isn’t approved for use in the US. Also, oh yeah, if you’re vaccinated you’re apparently still a threat to everyone in the universe, including other vaccinated people, so don’t meet anyone. What’s that? Too harsh? Ok, you can see other vaccinated people maybe. Ignore the fact that the vaccines generally have a 90% chance, minimum, of preventing you from even contracting the virus. And apparently if you’ve gotten the virus, you’re gonna get it again any day now if you keep fucking around. Fuck the CDC.
Speaking of those last points…
THE PHRASE “NO EVIDENCE”
ABSENCE OF EVIDENCE IS NOT EVIDENCE OF ABSENCE YOU MORONS. IF I HEAR ONE MORE “INTELLECTUAL” OR OFFICAL SAY THAT BECAUSE WE DON’T KNOW 100% WHAT ALL THIS SHIT DOES YOU HAVE TO EXERCISE 100% CAUTION I WILL SHOVE A BOOT UP YOUR ASS, AND THEN THROW YOU TO THE WOLVES.
Ahem. I got a little worked up there. But the “no evidence” crew is in full power despite just an absolute shit ton of evidence suggesting that A: immunity to Covid lasts a damn long time for the majority of people after you got it and B: if you get the vaccine you aren’t going to spread it to others. But if we listen to those who can’t decided what to do with the cup of water in their hand while their head is on fire, we’d be cowering in our homes, never leaving to do anything ever again. This is not just bad fucking math and ignorance of how the world actually works, it’s more irresponsible than anyone who goes out partying. Saying that sort of shit can and has caused vaccine hesitancy: why should I get the vaccine (which I heard has some weird side effects) if I’m not going to be able to do anything anyway? Again, to reiterate, fuck the CDC and anyone who shares this dumb fucking viewpoint.

THE VACCINE MANUFACTURERS
Mostly, just Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca here actually, as far as I know Moderna and Pfizer have been doing just dandy. But despite the fact that I think the J&J vaccine is 100% safe and would encourage anyone to get it, the company has made some dumb fucking decisions. Most obvious, we’ve got them ruining a ton of doses by contracting out to a garbage company who mixed stuff from other vaccines into the J&J one. Great going, morons. Also, there were a lot of delays getting production set up. Again, great going. Obviously, the US should have accepted this far fucking earlier, but we’ve got to get our own studies in guys despite the fact that this has been approved everywhere else and has fantastic records!1!1! AstraZeneca, on the other hand, was found to be lying about the efficacy of the vaccine, inflating its efficacy for… no reason? At all? Or did they? Who fucking knows, they lied at least some amount but because we live in an oligopoly they’ll get away with it with just some fines maybe. Fucking hell.
Also none of the major vaccines have agreed to share their formulas with generic manufacturers for the benefit of the entire world, but most especially developing countries that really need vaccines. Despite the vaccines being made with billions of dollars of public funding. Because again, oligopoly. Can’t have people making things that can save lives when someone can make a buck off it. Honestly, anyone with the ability to make that decision should be charged with some form of murder for all the people that are going to die without a vaccine.

EUROPE
Oh no we see blood clots in some people who got a vaccine quick stop all use of that vaccine so we can let thousands die while we moralize and demonstrate how fucking concerned we are for shoving thumbs up our asses and ignoring the actual fucking issues at play, like, I don’t know, the fucking virus. It was a stupid as fuck idea then, it’s still stupid now, CDC. Fucking morons.
THE WHO
Like the CDC, but worldwide! Hooray! Similar incompetence, similar amounts of smudging the truth and outright lying. They also said we shouldn’t wear masks. But we don’t have any control over it now because The Last Guy decided that we shouldn’t be funding them anymore (which, in honesty, they’re garbage and need to do better with the money they get) but now all that means is their primary funder is China so now they’re just another puppet mouth for the fucking Chinese Communist Party, who Suck All The Ass And Need To Be Destroyed You Can Quote Me On This.

ANDREW CUOMO
Besides being a scumfuck sexual abuser and harasser (10 pretty substantial accounts so far, so there’s probably quadruple that minimum), Cuomo also murdered 6000 people. Just straight up said fuck it and tossed every nursing home resident with a positive test back into homes with noninfected people and forgot about them. Then he hid the data. I defended this asshole earlier in the pandemic, but now? Fuck him. I hope he gets tried for murder and rots in prison, until they drag him out to try him for the sexual abuse, where upon they throw him back in prison. But he’s a millionaire politician, so probably not.
SCHOOLS
So every single decision made on schools was probably the wrong one. They ignored their own guidelines, ignored science, decided to kick all the students out, decided to let them back in, decided that they don’t actually need to worry about Covid in schools, decided that masks weren’t mandatory despite various dress codes, and decided to still take thousands of dollars from students for what’s going to be substandard to shit education. I still have no fucking idea what the right decision is. All I know is that teaching students at home is atrocious, likely causing permanent issues with learning and socializing for millions, and is only rivaled by the absolute shitfest that is the American Education System.
My experiences have mostly been in a college setting, where I am now teaching an online course that I could post to Youtube and instruct the world as well as I am now, just letting them run wild in the comments section (god that would be amazing I should do that). It’s a joke, made worse by the fact that I wasn’t supposed to be teaching this semester (but it got me vaccinated early, so, hey, that’s rad). There’s no break at all this semester. Students are burned out and stressed to hell and back. I’m writing a dissertation and having mental breakdowns every other month and panic attacks every other week. I encouraged everyone that I could to not go to college this year because from my experiences at the end of the spring 2020 semester and the course I taught in Summer 2020, it was going to be a shitshow and lo and behold, I was right.

THE FDA AND ERIC TOPOL
Ok, so a bunch of what I blamed the CDC for also falls on the FDA, so include them there. But here is where I rant about them and one Eric Topol. Probably a name you haven’t heard of. But around about October 2020, Eric met with the FDA to urge them not to approve any vaccines before the November 3rd, so as to make it nonpolitical. Even though Pfizer had submitted their vaccine. And we know it works. Oh boy. Oh boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
So, out of concern for political meddling, this guy decides to push for the FDA to stay nonpolitical when it comes to vaccines. Which, sure, that’s a decision that can be made and defended. Except for the part when it delayed the approval of a vaccine that FUCKING WORKS because he was afraid it would look good for The Last Guy. Despite my seething hatred for The Last Guy, I have a seething love of human life far greater, and think that if someone says “hey we have a thing that can probably save lives” the correct response to that is not “well we’re gonna make sure it has 0 side effects and can’t do anything bad ever for anyone”, its “lets get this into people as soon as is humanly possible so we can save as many lives as possible.”
Out of all the points made here, this is by far the shakiest (its unclear how much effect Topol had, how fast the FDA would have approved it otherwise, how fast we would have been able to get shots in arms without this) but I’ve decided to not give any fucker involved with this shitshow of government vaccine rollout any benefit of the doubt, so fuck Topol. Possibly as much as The Last Guy.

DECISION MAKERS
Hey this is for everyone: don’t make decisions that are going to harm people that didn’t make a decision.
Ok this one is a little hard, and comes at the request of a Facebook comment asking me to touch on “Accountability, for officials, AND regular people.” Which is actually really important and gets overlooked a lot. People make decisions every day, and for the most part these decisions don’t have a lot of thought behind them, because that’s how people work. The only issue is, nowadays, even small seeming decisions can have an outsized effect on lots of people because if you get Covid there’s a lot of opportunities for you to make decisions that can literally kill people. For most people, this means not taking as many risks, not going to parties, and generally making decisions that reduce the potential harm.
For all the big names discussed above, and anyone else with policymaking power, this is far more of an issue. They need to make decisions that do the least amount of harm and enable the greatest amount of good for the largest number of people, and so many of them fail to meet this bar. For a good part of the early months of this year, decisions made on restaurants, schools, and other public spaces in NY at least were made without any thought or concern beyond “I need to do what the least number of people will complain about because any other option will make my chances at reelection lower.” Which is fucking disgraceful, and also completely understandable, because 95%+ of politicians only care about that one thing: reelection. Why make a decision that people won’t like when you can make a decision that you can defend as “well it seemed good at the time” that people like? Maybe because you’re a cowardly fuckhead who has never actually had to do any real public service in your life, but what do I know.
